Areas of interest
About my workI am focused on urban food systems, particularly in relation to small- and medium-scaled food-based livelihoods. I work primarily in Malawi, though I have also done research in Senegal. I collaborate with researchers at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Our latest work had to do with organizing collaborative design sessions in Lilongwe, wherein urban food traders identified the most critical problems in local wet markets, and then developed solutions for addressing them. I write about my work here: http://www.foodnoodle.social/. I am also affiliated with the Center for Regional Food Systems (http://foodsystems.msu.edu/), which works with food system actors to strengthen the ability of regional food systems to provide accessible and quality food. We recognize the importance of engaging a network of actors to support local food systems, and our experiences may be of value to others in this network.
